This December, we need your help to urge the legislature to pass the Hunger Free Campus Initiative during the informal session before the end of 2022. Find your State Senator and Representative’s info here.

S.2811/H.4697 creates the Massachusetts Hunger-Free Campus Initiative, which provides targeted resources to public colleges and universities and private institutions that disproportionately serve low-income students to enable them to help students complete college by expanding successful anti-hunger initiatives on their campuses.

Sample tweet:

College student hunger was a problem before the COVID-19 pandemic, and it will continue to be an issue unless systemic changes are made. Support S.2811/H.4697! @CollegeHungerMA

37% of public university students in MA are food insecure. To ensure colleges and universities have the capacity to address food insecurity on campus, we need to pass the #HungerFreeCampus Initiative now!

Sample phone call script to legislators:

“My name is _____ and I live/work in ____.   I’m calling to urge Senator/Rep _____ to support passage of the Hunger Free Campus Initiative during informal session.

Senate Bill, 2811/ House Bill 4697 will provide a roadmap for the Department of Higher Education to address food insecurity on our public colleges and minority serving institutions and maximize federal nutrition dollars. In Massachusetts, 1 in 3 college students facing food insecurity. I appreciate Senator/Rep _____’s consideration of this request.”

Thank you for your commitment to ending hunger on campus!
